Dry Fly
White Wulff
The White Wulff is a high-floating dry fly developed by Lee Wulff as part of his influential series of hair-wing patterns. It was originally intended to imitate the large white Coffin Fly spinner associated with the Eastern Green Drake hatch, but it also works as a general mayfly imitation and searching pattern. Its buoyant construction makes it especially useful in fast currents, rough water, and low-light conditions where a more delicate fly may be difficult to see or keep afloat. White Wulffs are commonly tied in sizes 8 through 14 and should generally be presented with a drag-free drift. Managing the hair while forming evenly divided wings and maintaining a properly tapered body are the main challenges when tying the pattern.
