1. Who We Are

FlyTyingHub.com ("we", "us", "our") is an independently operated fly tying reference site. We publish step-by-step fly tying recipes and curated material links to help fly fishers find the gear they need. We are not affiliated with any tackle manufacturer or retailer.

2. Information We Collect

2a. Account Information

If you create an account, we collect your email address, a username you choose, and a hashed (never plain-text) password. We use your email address to send account-related messages such as email confirmation, password reset requests, and any notifications you explicitly opt into. We do not sell your email address.

2b. Usage Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site — which pages are viewed, how long visitors stay, and which features are used. GA4 collects this data by setting cookies on your browser (see Section 3). The data is aggregated and pseudonymised; we do not use it to identify individual visitors by name. Google's privacy policy applies to data processed by GA4: policies.google.com/privacy.

2c. Affiliate Click Data

When you click a "Buy" link on our site, the click is routed through our own tracker before forwarding you to the retailer's website. We log the product variant ID, the pattern page you were viewing, and the timestamp. We do not log your IP address or any personal identifier in connection with affiliate clicks.

2d. User-Submitted Content

If you submit a fly tying pattern through the site, we store the pattern text, materials, tying steps, and any photos you upload, associated with your account. Submitted patterns may be published publicly on the site. You retain ownership of your original content; by submitting you grant us a non-exclusive licence to display and distribute it on FlyTyingHub.com.

2e. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect payment information. We do not run advertising networks. We do not use tracking pixels from social media platforms on this site.

3. Cookies

We use the following cookies:

• Session cookie — a temporary cookie set when you log in, used to keep you authenticated while you browse. It expires when you close your browser (or after 30 days if you check "Remember me").
• GA4 analytics cookies — _ga and _ga_* are set by Google Analytics 4. They persist for up to 2 years and are used to distinguish returning visitors. These are the only third-party cookies on this site.

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by disabling cookies in your browser settings. Disabling cookies will not prevent you from using the site.

4. Affiliate Links

FlyTyingHub.com participates in affiliate programmes. When you click a product link and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission from the retailer at no additional cost to you. Affiliate links are labelled on the site. Our editorial decisions — which patterns we publish, which products we list — are independent of affiliate relationships.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:

• Google Analytics — as described in Section 2b.
• Affiliate retailers — when you click an affiliate link, the retailer may receive your IP address and browser information as part of a normal HTTP request. We do not send them your account details.
• Legal requirements — if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of users or the public.

6. Data Retention

Account information is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your email address, username, and password within 30 days. Submitted patterns attributed to your account will be anonymised rather than deleted unless you specifically request removal of the content.

GA4 data is retained for 14 months in our Google Analytics property, after which it is automatically deleted by Google.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Security

We use HTTPS on all pages, store passwords using bcrypt hashing, and follow reasonable security practices for a site of this size. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's Privacy

FlyTyingHub.com is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently done so, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. Material changes will be noted on the site.
