Salmon
Showgirl
The Showgirl is an Alaskan salmon and steelhead pattern developed by George Cook around 1983 while he was guiding at Alagnak Lodge in Bristol Bay. It was Cook’s first major Alaskan attractor and became the predecessor to his influential Alaskabou series, which later included the Pixie’s Revenge and Popsicle. The fly was originally fished on sinking tips to reach salmon holding in deeper runs and tidewater. It can be swung across the current or stripped through pools for Chinook, coho, chum salmon, and steelhead. Showgirls are generally tied in bright contrasting colors, with the main considerations being maintaining movement, securely anchoring the long materials, and avoiding excessive bulk that makes the fly difficult to cast.
