Salmon
Blue Moon
The Blue Moon is a salmon and steelhead attractor developed by George Cook as part of his Alaskabou family of marabou patterns. It is commonly fished on a controlled swing through runs and pools, although it can also be stripped or worked with a sinking-tip line when fish are holding deeper. The black-and-blue combination is especially popular for winter steelhead, low-light conditions, and glacial or lightly stained rivers, while the marabou produces strong movement even in slow current. Blue Moons can be tied on traditional hooks, tubes, or with cone heads for additional depth. The main tying consideration is keeping the marabou mobile and properly proportioned without adding so much material that the fly becomes difficult to cast.
