Tarpon Glo

The Tarpon Glo is a traditional saltwater attractor pattern used primarily for tarpon on the flats and in coastal channels. Rather than matching one specific prey species, its feather-wing construction can suggest a baitfish, shrimp, or other fleeing food depending on how it is retrieved. The fly is usually cast ahead of moving fish, allowed to settle into their path, and worked with short, firm strips. Tarpon Glos are commonly tied in orange, green, and yellow variations on hooks from about 2/0 to 5/0, with brighter versions particularly useful in stained water or low-light conditions. The pattern can also produce snook, jacks, seatrout, and other aggressive saltwater species. Keeping the feather wings balanced and the overall dressing sparse enough to cast easily are the main considerations when tying it.
