Pale Evening Dun
The Pale Evening Dun is a dry fly used to imitate small, light-colored mayflies that emerge during the evening hours of summer. These hatches commonly occur from July into August and can provide excellent fishing from late afternoon until dark. The fly is generally tied in sizes 16 and 18 and presented with a drag-free dead drift to rising trout. Emerger patterns can be especially productive at the beginning of the hatch, while spinner imitations may become important as the light fades. Because these mayflies often hatch in slower currents, careful presentations and light tippet may be necessary when fish become selective.
