Henryville Special
The Henryville Special is a classic caddis dry fly created by Pennsylvania angler Hiram Brobst for the Henryville section of Brodhead Creek during the early twentieth century. It is especially effective when trout are feeding selectively on adult caddisflies, including in slower currents where a more exact imitation may outperform a heavily dressed searching pattern. The fly can be presented with a drag-free drift or skittered across the surface to imitate an active egg-laying caddis. Henryville Specials are commonly tied in sizes 12 through 16, and the hackle can be clipped underneath to help the fly sit lower in the surface film. Mounting the paired quill wings evenly and winding the body hackle without making the pattern excessively bulky are the main challenges when tying it.
