Light Hendrickson
The Light Hendrickson is a classic Catskill dry fly used to imitate the female dun during the Hendrickson mayfly hatch. The original Hendrickson pattern was developed by Roy Steenrod and named after his fishing companion, A. E. Hendrickson. This important spring hatch often provides some of the season’s first dependable dry-fly fishing, particularly in the Northeast and Midwest. Light Hendricksons are generally fished in sizes 12 and 14 with a natural dead drift, although trout may sometimes favor an emerger when the insects struggle to reach the surface. Because male Hendricksons are darker and commonly represented by the Red Quill, carrying both patterns can be helpful when trout become selective.
