Glo Bug

The Glo Bug is a simple egg pattern used primarily for trout, steelhead, and salmon feeding on loose eggs during spawning seasons. It is most effective when dead-drifted close to the bottom beneath an indicator, particularly downstream of active spawning areas or during periods of increased water flow that dislodge eggs. Glo Bugs are tied in a wide range of colors, including orange, pink, peach, chartreuse, and combinations with a contrasting center or “blood dot.” The pattern can be fished alone or as part of a multi-fly nymph rig. Although it requires very few materials, trimming the yarn into a neat, properly sized egg without making it excessively dense is the main challenge when tying it.
