Dave's Hopper Fly

Created by the famous Dave Whitlock in the mid-1950s, Daves Hopper remains one of the top producing grasshopper imitations of today. When Dave set out to create a hopper imitation, he was looking for something that would float well, sit low in the water, and would land on the surface with a splat that imitates the real thing. Taking inspiration from Joe&';s Hopper and the Muddler Minnow, Dave designed his fly with a spun deer hair head, knotted pheasant tail legs, a hackled body, and poly yarn body that all come together to give buoyancy, a realistic profile, and the splat that Dave was seeking.A great grasshopper imitation, Daves Hopper can be fished any time in the summer and until the first real frost hits and the hoppers disappear.
