Silver Hilton

The Silver Hilton is a classic steelhead fly developed by Henry Hilton during the mid-1940s for California’s Klamath and Trinity rivers. It is especially associated with summer steelhead and is normally cast across and downstream on a controlled swing through riffles, runs, and tailouts. Its relatively subdued appearance makes it particularly useful in low, clear water or when fish are reluctant to chase brighter attractor patterns. Silver Hiltons are commonly tied in sizes 4 through 8, with green-butt and pink-butt variations also widely used. Mounting the paired grizzly hackle-tip wings evenly, forming a smooth body, and keeping the overall dressing sparse are the main considerations when tying the pattern.
