Orange Blossom
The Orange Blossom is a classic Atlantic salmon hairwing closely associated with New Brunswick fly tyer J. C. Arseneault, whose practical hairwing patterns became popular on the Restigouche during the 1930s. It is normally cast across and downstream and fished on a controlled swing through pools and likely holding water. The silver and yellow body provides flash, while the bright orange collar gives the pattern a strong presence in cold, high, or slightly stained conditions. Orange Blossoms can be tied in a wide range of sizes, with larger flies useful in heavier water and smaller, sparsely dressed versions better suited to clear summer flows. Forming a smooth body, winding the rib evenly, and keeping the light-brown hair wing sparse and properly aligned are the main considerations when tying the pattern.
