Green Peacock

The Green Peacock is a traditional Atlantic salmon fly documented by T. E. Pryce-Tannatt in his 1914 book "How to Dress Salmon Flies." Pryce-Tannatt considered it especially effective in sharp, fast-moving water, where its peacock-sword wing and contrasting body remain noticeable in broken currents. The fly is normally cast across and downstream and fished on a controlled swing through likely salmon lies. It can be tied in different sizes to suit changing water levels, with larger versions used in stronger or higher flows and smaller, more sparsely dressed flies suitable for clearer conditions. Maintaining a smooth body and forming an even wing from the sometimes-unruly peacock sword fibers are the principal challenges when tying the pattern.
