Bristol Bay Matuka
The Bristol Bay Matuka is a bright attractor streamer developed for Pacific salmon and steelhead in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest. Its Matuka-style feather wing is secured along the hook shank with ribbing, allowing the fly to maintain its shape while producing movement in the water. The pattern can be swung through runs, stripped across pools, or dead-drifted before being allowed to rise at the end of the presentation. It is commonly tied on strong salmon hooks in sizes 1/0 through 6, with fluorescent materials especially useful in stained, glacial, or high water. The main tying challenge is winding the rib through the feather fibers without trapping or distorting the wing.
